GROW Southern Region Workshops in Ballincollig, Co. Cork

The GROW Southern Region held the second of their bi-annual GROW workshops on Saturday, November 5th at The Oriel House Hotel, Ballincollig.

The theme of the workshops was Step 10: “We took our responsible and caring place in society”southern-region-workshops

There were four excellent, inspiring and motivational Leadership Testimonies delivered by Mary Brennan, Regional Chair; John from the Gurranabraher Group; Zameel from the Youghal Group; Diarmuid from the Thursday night Group and Michael from the Wednesday morning Group.

Each testimony highlighted how each of the presenters grew personally and developed by taking on leadership roles within the organisation. All described how challenging it was initially to “have the courage to make mistakes”, but also that in giving, you too receive.

This is at the very core of GROW’s values and principles and what contributes to the GROW Community. Although we all initially come to GROW for our own needs and troubles, gradually, over time and with knowledge and application of the GROW Program, we learn to give back and support one another. This is at the heart of GROW Leadership.

After a coffee break and chat, it was back into the workshops to break up into individual groups. Each group looked at how they have personally developed from taking on a leadership role in GROW, what  issues might prevent someone from taking on a leadership role, what the impact would be on the organisation if no-one took on leadership roles or responsibilities, what we can do to involve and encourage newer or quieter members to get more involved within the meetings and the organisation and what we personally can do to contribute to the growth of GROW in our respective areas and region.

There was some fantastic input and collection of ideas, which got everyone thinking about “taking our responsible and caring place” in GROW and the wider community.

The workshops were then concluded by a delicious lunch at the restaurant of the Oriel House Hotel, where everybody got together from all the various groups around Cork City and county areas to catch up and chat, to renew old acquaintances and forge new ones, within the GROW Community.

Thanks to all for their participation and valuable input on the day!
