50 Cork Salons and Barbers to Take Part in Cut and GROW Events

More than 50 Cork barbers and hair salons will highlight the importance of positive mental wellbeing and awareness when they take part in a ‘Cut and GROW’ campaign later next month in aid of GROW.

‘Cut and GROW’ events will take place from March 12th to 19th in salons across Cork including North Cork.

The aim is to raise mental health awareness and funds for GROW.   Meanwhile, it is also planned to extend Cut and GROW to salons and barbers in Kilkenny this year.

Cork organiser Susan Crowley from GROW emphasises the concept behind the two-day event.

“Cut and GROW is about fundraising but also raising awareness of GROW’s services in Cork and the importance of positive mental wellbeing.

“Over the two days, we are encouraging hairdressers, barbers and their clients to open up about mental health. We want to encourage people from all walks of life to talk about their mental wellbeing, to reach out to others and to be aware of the supports that are available.

Going to a salon is a social experience and people often talk about many subjects, including their daily lives and mental health.

“As a result, they are an ideal setting to show what GROW has to offer in terms of helping people who may be experiencing mental health difficulties or to inform people of the mental health supports that are available to someone that they know, be it a friend, colleague, family member or loved one,” says Susan.
