Southern Mental Health Connection Sharing Event
The Southern Region Drug & Alcohol Services hosted a recent Mental Health Connection Sharing Event at their premises at Kinvara House, Dublin Hill, Cork.
The event on Monday, April 23rd provided an opportunity for the HSE and local agencies to come together and keep abreast of current issues in the mental health arena.
GROW was represented by Southern Region Area Coordinator, Finola O’Callaghan, who gave an update on new groups that have recently opened up in the Cork area.
The Cork Local Drug & Alcohol Task Force launched the event with details on the work they are doing in the Southern region, followed by a presentation from Helena Cogan, HSE Resource Officer for Suicide Prevention, Mental Health Services Cork-Kerry Community Healthcare.
As it’s that time of year again, all were encouraged to brandish the Green Ribbon for May Mental Health Month. This initative is to reduce the stigma of mental health and raise awareness of the importance of minding your mental and emotional health.
All were reminded that this has to start with the people at the front line, before they can be in a position to help others. As the GROW Wisdom reminds us:“If you need help – help others. To help others best, let them help you” – GROW Blue Book P.13
