Successful Eastern and Midland Regional Weekend

Upwards of 40 people attended the Eastern and Midland Regional Weekend, held amidst the breathtaking backdrop of Glendalough in Co. Wicklow.Charles

The very successful and enjoyable weekend featured an array of speakers, workshops and activities and was very privileged to have Charles Searson, Area Lead for Service User Engagement, HSE – CHO Area 6 and his colleague, Margaret Duggan, Area Lead for Service User Engagement, HSE – CHO Area 7 address the weekend.

Community Healthcare Organisation Area 6 incorporates Wicklow, Dun Laoghaire, Dublin South East while Area 7 includes Kildare/West Wicklow, Dublin West, Dublin South City, Dublin South West.

Charles and Margaret are members of the Community Healthcare Organisation (CHO) Area Mental Health Management Team. In line with A Vision for Change, they consult and present the views of service users, family members and carers through engagement and partnership and help to influence decision making in the planning, design, implementation and evaluation of mental health services.


The Regional Weekend, which focused on the theme of ‘friendship as the special key to positive mental health and wellbeing’, included an opening address by Frances, an inspiring testimony by Ann as well as a reflection by Edenderry group member, Gerry Herbert, on his book A (Little) Book of Nothing To Help You ‘Unthink’.cer

There was also a fantastic and fun ceramics workshop, led by Peir from Solace Ceramics, which allowed participants to display their creativity and artistic talents. On Sunday, a workshop on nutrition and fitness was held by Alesha from She’s Fit.

Entertainment at the gala dinner was provided by the superb East Coast Jazz Band, who were a new act at the Glendalough weekend.

On Sunday, Fr.Stan celebrated Mass. There was also a special presentation to Fr. Stan by Area Coordinator Izabela Morris and Ethel from the Ballyfermot group as well as a surprise celebratory cakestan to mark the 60th anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood.
