A free four-week Community Mental Health Education Programme run by the mental health charity, GROW, in conjunction with the HSE, entitled ‘Understanding and Minding your Mental Health’ commenced in the Charlestown Pastoral Centre on Tuesday February 18th.
On the first night, we had Michael Ryan come and speak where he shared his own personal story and background in relation to mental health problems, he also discussed his current role as head of mental health engagement and recovery. The night went very well, it was relaxed and informal and attendees had plenty of questions and Michael was open to giving lots of ideas and suggestions when posed with possible challenges and difficulties bought on by mental health problems.
We look forward to welcoming Karen McHale to the Pastoral centre next Tuesday night February 25th. Karen will be sharing information on the work of the Recovery college and explaining more in relation to programmes running here and who they can benefit from the Recovery college
Week 3 takes place on Tuesday March 24th Sylvia Duffell when will speak on ‘Strengthen and Support your Personal Resilience’. The topic in week 4 is ‘Introduction to Peer Support into our Mental Health Services’ with Patrick Smyth.
All sessions take place from 7pm to 8pm and are free of charge. Those interested can attend one or all nights. The aim of this programme is to promote community awareness around mental health issues and to open up discussion and inform people about supports.
GROW is that it is a community-based organisation that provides support and education around emotional and mental wellbeing through weekly free meetings.
These meetings provide mutual help, understanding and encouragement to those who are struggling with any aspect of mental health from depression to stress, anxiety, loneliness and isolation and to those experiencing financial and physical difficulties.
